1. Paula no va al cumpleaños porque tiene que estar con sus **abuelos.**
( Paula is not going to a birthday because she has to stay with her grandparents.)

*’abuelos’* (grandparents) is a noun in plural.

2. Los tíos y los padres de Paula están muy emocionados porque llegan **sus** padres.
( Paula’s uncles and parents are very excited because their parents will come.)

*’sus’* (their) is a possessive pronoun, 3rd person plural.

3. Los primos de Paula están **tan** contentos **como** ella.
( Paula’s cousins are as happy as she.)

*’tan…como’* ( as…as) is a comparative structure used mostly with adjectives.

4. Paula también está **triste** porque no va al cumpleaños.
( Paula is also sad because she is not going to a birthday.)

*’triste’* (sad) is an adjective.

5. A los abuelos de Paula les gusta el mes de **diciembre** menos que el mes de septiembre.
( Paula’s grandparents like the month of December more than the month of September.)

*’diciembre’* (December) is a noun. Notice that the names of the months in Spanish are NOT written with a capital letter like they are in English.
