Despite all the publicity over the years, bullying is an issue that does not diminish at all. It continues to be an ongoing problem in all schools and other places beyond the four corners of the classroom.
According to the statistics done in Canada, one in five children is bullied by other students. Moreover, another study was conducted and the researchers found a huge discrepancy: 71% of the teachers reported that they are able to intervene in bullying, whereas only 25% of the students only confirmed that their teachers intervene in bullying cases. This result indicates that most adults, particularly the teachers, are unaware of how widespread bullying is in schools.
As a society, we need to address this problem and stop it. All students must take a stand against bullying. However, the school and the entire community must do more than to discourage bullying. There should be measures that should be put in place that would not only promote protection in bullied students but also address the problems that promote bullying behavior in children. Every student deserves to feel safe in their school environment. This is what they all deserve.
