The sounds above 85 dB are harmful and may damage hearing more quickly, and repeated exposure to noise at levels of around 90 decibels or higher may cause permanent hearing loss.
Exercise 4
Step 1
1 of 2
Repeated and long durations of noise exposure can be detrimental to health. A repeated noise of about 90 decibels (dB) can cause headaches and permanent hearing loss. A person hearing a sound of 130 dB or higher can experience ear pain. It’s important to have these sounds regulated by the EPA to prevent the occurrence of these noise-induced disabilities.

The $textbf{greenhouse effect}$ is a natural process of warming the Earth’s surface caused by heat-trapping gases such as carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and methane ($CH_4$) present in the atmosphere.

$textbf{Global warming}$ is the long-term rise in the Earth’s temperature caused by man-made pollutants that continue to build-up in the atmosphere. Fossil fuel burning, deforestation, and certain agricultural practices that have been occurring for years contribute to the accumulation of these heat-trapping gases. This results in droughts, extreme weather events, destruction of habitats, and ice melts that elevate global sea levels.

Exercise 6
Step 1

An AQI of 145 indicates that the air quality is unhealthy for Paul. This means that sensitive people, which include those who have lung diseases, may experience negative health effects. Since Paul has asthma, the best thing to do is postpone the in-line skating with his friends. He can go when the AQI lowers to a range of 0-100. They could also play indoor games as an alternative.

$textbf{Public Service Announcement Script: Air Pollution}$

Abbreviations:

* VO (Voice Over)
* SFX (Sound Effects)

$textit{-30 SECONDS-}$

$textit{-Fade in-}$

$textbf{VO}$: Good morning, students of (insert school). This is a public service announcement from the local health department about their campaign against air pollution.

$textit{-SFX-}$

$textbf{VO}$: The local government is encouraging everyone, including us students, to help reduce air pollutants and excessive greenhouse gases. Do you know that every year, there are around 7 million deaths because of long-term exposure to air pollution? Studies have shown that people who live in places with terrible air pollution had a higher risk of stroke, heart disease, and cancer. Also, it’s been a major discussion for years that air pollution causes global warming.

There are things that we need to change in our everyday life that can help reduce air pollution. According to the health department, the most important step is to conserve fossil fuels. Ride a bike, take public transportation, install solar panels in our homes, and turn off unused appliances. Well, you get the idea. Conserve energy so that fewer fossil fuels get burned. Less fossil fuel burning, the better the air. Moreover, we also need cooperation from the big guys. The local health department is also encouraging all industrial factories to tone down carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide emissions.

Let’s keep in mind all these practices. We need everyone’s participation to keep our precious air clean and save our planet. That’s all for today’s announcement. I’m (insert name) signing out.
