During the morning hours were in deciduous trees shed their leaves, a 27-year-old man decided to harvest the buds, flowers, and leaves of his Cannabis plant and store the cannabis in a container for its drying and curing process. He has been growing Cannabis in the basement of his house since he graduated from the university, which had been four years already. As his harvested cannabis leaves dry out, he can already sense the earthy and complex smell of the marijuana and it made him feel the excitement of trying his new harvest. However, this excitement vanished as he realized that it would still take weeks of patience to try it out.

After six weeks of drying and curing the Cannabis plant, he decided to roll a joint and try it out. As he is rolling the dried marijuana into a piece of paper, he felt thrilled and electrified. Until finally, he got to experience the pleasure and euphoric sensation of marijuana consumption. He felt high like the clouds in the sky, but as soon as he used marijuana, a friend of his called, inviting him to a party and asked him to bring some weed. Out of excitement, he hurriedly went to his car and forgot to fasten his seatbelt. He accelerated the speed of his car to immediately reach the party’s venue, but suddenly, he got into an accident. His car crashed into an electric post which made him unconscious and injured.

Months had passed since the accident, and he realized the negative consequences of marijuana consumption and that made him want to stop. He searched for different resources that could guide and help him during the process of his drug abuse recovery until he found SMART Recovery. SMART Recovery is an international non-profit organization that provides assistance, guidance, and support to individuals who have considered abstinence from drug or substance abuse.

SMART Recovery supported him in the process through self-empowerment and self-reliance, encouraging him to live a healthy lifestyle, providing techniques for positive changes, advocating the appropriate consumption of prescription drugs and psychological treatments, and providing open discussions and educational meetings for individuals who seek help. This organization helps him gain independence from drug abuse and dependence. And because of this, he started volunteering to help his community and the individuals who are also suffering from addiction.
