Section 15.4: The Excretory System
The organs that are a part of excretory system are
Lungs, skin, large intestine, liver, kidney, ureters, bladder and urethra.
The urethra is the duct where the urine passes from the bladder to the urinary meatus. This tube allows the urine to get released out of the body.
Urethritis is a condition wherein the urethra is inflamed and irritated due to infection.
1. Stay hydrated! Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. When you don’t drink enough water, you are at great risk of developing bladder infections and even kidney stones. No one wants that.
2. Go easy on your coffee. Avoid too much intake of caffeine as this is a diuretic, which is a substance that makes your kidney make more urine. Remember that increased urination will result in dehydration.
3. Too much salt in your food is dangerous! A high-salt diet, which includes processed foods, canned soups, and fast food, will increase your chances of developing kidney stones. Opt for a healthy, well-balanced diet. Go green! Eat green!
4. Practice good hygiene. If you’re a lady, remember to wipe from front to back so you don’t bring the bacteria into your vagina, which might result in a urinary tract infection. On other hand, if you’re a gentleman, clean your groin area regularly to reduce the chances of spreading bacteria.
5. More importantly, visit the doctor regularly for check-ups, even if you feel healthy. An annual routine check-up will help you identify any early or underlying signs of health issues that you are not even aware of.

On the other hand, hemodialysis works similarly to our kidneys. This artificial kidney machine is used when our kidneys fail to function normally. During this treatment, the blood from your body travels into the hemodialysis machine. In turn, the machine filters the waste products and removes the extra fluid. Once the blood is cleaned, it returns into the body through the tubes from the machine.
