A reflex is defined as the involuntary action of our body in response to danger or something else. It usually protects our body against situations or objects that may cause harm; hence, the term “fight-or-flight” response. For example, if you put you accidentally touched a hot pan, your reflex will make you remove your hand away from it.

Here are some of the causes of the diseases and disorders in the nervous system:

1. bacterial/viral infection
2. hereditary
3. exposure to toxic substances
4. head and spine injuries
5. aging
6. brain damage at birth

Exercise 4

The right hemisphere of the brain, which is the center for creativity and spatial relationships, controls the left side of the body. Therefore, the right hemisphere of the patient is damaged.

ANS controls involuntary body functions like digestion and heart rate while SNS controls voluntary response form the senses.

Degenerative nervous system disorders are mostly genetic in origin that is why the treatment for these diseases are not concrete yet. The diseases also are commonly seen in old age. By the time the disease is diagnosed, the neurons have also deteriorated, thus the symptoms occur. As scientists and doctors study these diseases, the more they know how to make the lives of patients better. Starting with the various formulations on newly created drugs to help decrease or increase the hormones causing the disease. Recent genetic advances like getting stem cells from patients with Alzheimer’s disease before they die is a breakthrough in finding the treatment for this disorder.

One of the senses gets stimulated and activate the receptors which contacts a connecting neuron in the spinal cord. This message gets relayed to send an impulse to a motor neuron that directs the muscles. Once the muscle gets triggered, reaction or the reflex happens. Also, when the connecting neuron connects with a motor neuron to send an impulse to the muscles, this impulse sends a message to the brain. Once this happens, the message will be sent back to the muscle to react.
