What is First Aid?
First aid is the immediate and temporary care given to a person who has been injured or suddenly taken ill. It is the help that someone can give until medical assistance arrives or until the individual receives professional medical treatment. First aid enables people to take action in a wide range of health-related situations, from minor cuts and bruises to life-threatening emergencies such as heart attacks or strokes. The most important thing about first aid is being able to stay calm in an emergency situation and provide prompt and appropriate care for the patient’s condition. This includes assessing any potential danger, such as hazardous materials; checking vital signs; providing comfort measures; tending wounds; controlling bleeding and fractures; giving rescue breaths when necessary; administering medications if needed; splinting broken bones and making sure that patients receive proper follow up care after leaving the scene of an accident.Learning basic first aid techniques can be lifesaving in both simple medical emergencies as well as more serious ones and it doesn’t require any special training or experience. Basic information on how to administer first aid is widely available online, including instruction videos, checklists, detailed illustrations, interactive activities and more. Many organizations also offer hands-on classes where participants learn skills such as CPR, bandaging wounds properly and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) correctly. No matter what kind of environment you work in a factory floor, office building or restaurant kitchen knowing how to respond quickly with basic first aid skills could prevent injuries from becoming major catastrophes. In addition, having knowledge about first aid may even save lives during many common accidents that occur every day at home or while traveling abroad .
