Section 10-2: Global Impacts of Climate Change

Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 5
Rising sea level could submerge island nations and further destroy arctic habitats.
Step 2
2 of 5
By creating more sustainable agriculture practices, more regions will have access to clean water since so much of it is currently used as irrigation
Step 3
3 of 5
If ecosystems change, plants and animals will go extinct, migrate, or evolve
Step 4
4 of 5
Diseases will damage communities of various organisms and cause evolution since only those immune will survive and stay healthy
Result
5 of 5
Rising sea level could submerge island nations and further destroy arctic habitats.
Exercise 2
Step 1
1 of 5
Bermuda would suffer from rising sea levels since they are a small island nation
Step 2
2 of 5
India would suffer if agriculture changed since they rely heavily on spice and food agriculture
Step 3
3 of 5
Brazil would suffer if their biodiverse ecosystems changed since they have access to so many resources that grow in the rainforest
Step 4
4 of 5
Africa would suffer if diseases spread more since they have the least access to medicines and ways to prevent disease
Result
5 of 5
Bermuda would suffer from rising sea levels since they are a small island nation
Exercise 3
Result
1 of 1
As ice melts, the albedo or reflectiveness of the area decreases, allowing more of the sun’s energy to be absorbed which leads to an increase in temperature. Increasing temperatures cause more ice to melt
Exercise 4
Result
1 of 1
The more scientists agree, the more they can work on finding the solutions to climate change and convince others that this is a problem that requires cooperation to solve.
Exercise 5
Result
1 of 1
The melting will lower the areas albedo, allowing it to absorb more of the sun’s energy, which will cause more ice to melt
Exercise 6
Result
1 of 1
The albedo effect with ice is a positive feedback loop that will lead to lots of melting. As ice melts, the albedo or reflectiveness of the area decreases, causing an increase in the amount of energy absorbed from the sun, thus an increase in temperature. As this temperature increases it causes more melting. This melted ice will cause sea level rise, which can harm small island nations by causing floods and submerging important landmarks.
