Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 7
In this section, you are asked to use words or phrases from each column to create sentences describing the activities of you and your friends on various days. The example reads:
“My best friend (doesn’t) rest on Saturdays.”
Step 2
2 of 7
In this activity, the subject in the first column informs how you will conjugate the verb from the second column. The third column is simply additional descriptive information that you will use to complete your sentences. Let’s go through each subject and see how we might conjugate different verbs for the given subjects.
Step 3
3 of 7
Looking at the second subject (since the first has been addressed in the example), you’ll see that we’re dealing with the masculine, plural form of *”amigo”*. If you look back at page 98, you’ll see how to conjugate regular “-ar” verbs. Since our subject (“my friends”) could also be thought of as “they”, we will conjugate our chosen verb in the third-person, plural form. For example, you might write “*mis amigos **pasean** los lunes*”.
Step 4
4 of 7
Our next subject is “they”, specifically, two of your classmates. Once again, the verb that you choose from the second column can be conjugated using the “-an” ending. For example, perhaps you would say “*ustedes estudian…*” Remember that the third column contains times, but they are simply to be added on to the end, and don’t change at all.
Step 5
5 of 7
Whenever the subject includes “…and I”, you know that you’ll be seeing the “*nosotros*” form. On page 98, you learned that the ending “-amos” is indicative of the *nosotros* form. This is the ending you will use for your chosen verb from the second column. For example, “*trabajamos*”.
Step 6
6 of 7
The penultimate subject is “I”. You have a lot of experience conjugating verbs in the first-person, singular form. The ending “-o” is indicative of this form, and thus will be present in your verb conjugation. For example, you might say “*hablo por telefono”*.
Step 7
7 of 7
The final subject is “you”. On page 98, you learned that the ending “-as” is indicative of the second-person, singular form. This is the ending you will use for the verb of your choosing from the second column. For example, you might say “*tĂş tocas el piano los jueves”*.
