Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 4
In this section, you are to ask three different classmates what they enjoy doing on weekends, both if the weather is good and if the weather is bad. The example conversation reads:
A: What do you like to do on the weekends?
B: When the weather is good/bad I like….
Step 2
2 of 4
Not only will you have to ask the question that person “A” asks in the example, you will also have to know how to answer the question as person “B”.
Note the different parts of the question: the question word *”quĂ©”*, the singular *tĂş* form of “*gustar*” and then the infinitive *”hacer*”, meaning “to do”. Finally, you specify the time you are asking about with the inclusion of *”…los fines de semana”* at the end of the question.
Step 3
3 of 4
Now that you know how to ask the question, we need to practice responding to it. Note that you have to give two answers: one for when the weather is good, and one for when it is bad.
The example shows you how to begin your sentence, using the phrase “when the weather is good/bad”, which you learned on page 95.
Step 4
4 of 4
Finally, choose an activity for each sentence that you like to do. Remember, the activity must begin with an infinitive to make the sentence make grammatical sense. Words like “*ir*”, “*jugar*”, “*hacer*” are good infinitives to know, as they often begin phrases like “to go to….” and “to play…”. For example, you might say “*cuando hace mal tiempo me gusta jugar al ajedrez*”.
