Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 4
In this section, you’re asked to say whether or not you like doing the activities pictured. In addition, say which friend(s) you do the activity with.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The first picture is of a swimsuit, cap, and goggles.
Step 2
2 of 4
Look back to the beginning of the chapter to find the vocabulary word *”nadar*” (“to swim”). This is the verb you will use to complete the sentence.
Step 3
3 of 4
Since you are talking about yourself, you will use the *yo* form of *gustar*, *me gusta*. If you like to swim, simply follow the correct form of *gustar* with the verb, *nadar*. To negate the sentence, add *no* at the beginning of the sentence.
Step 4
4 of 4
Use *con* (“who”) to say who you like (or don’t like) swimming with. Since the prompt asks you to say which friend(s) you do activities with, make sure you use the right form of *amigo*. In the example, the feminine *amiga* is used since the friend, Mari, is a girl.
Exercise 2
Step 1
1 of 4
In this section, you’re asked to say whether or not you like doing the activities pictured. In addition, say which friend(s) you do the activity with.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The second picture is of a tennis racket.
Step 2
2 of 4
Back on page 83, you learned how to say “I like to play ______(sport)”. In this case, “al tenis” is what is being implied by the pictured tennis racket.
Step 3
3 of 4
The example shows us that if you like playing tennis, you will simply use the *yo* form of *gustar* (*me gusta*), followed by *jugar al tenis*. If you dislike it, just precede the whole sentence with “*no*”.
Step 4
4 of 4
As per the example, using *con mi* and a form of *amigo* is how you will say what friend(s) you like (or don’t like) to play tennis with. You can use the feminine or masculine form of *amigo*, in addition to changing the plurality (to *amigos/amigas*) if you have multiple friends you like to play with.
Exercise 3
Step 1
1 of 4
In this section, you’re asked to say whether or not you like doing the activities pictured. In addition, say which friend(s) you do the activity with.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The third picture is of a drawing.
Step 2
2 of 4
You learned on page 82 that *dibujar* is Spanish for “to draw”, which is what is being implied here by the drawing.
Step 3
3 of 4
Since you’re talking about yourself, and the activity in question is an infinitive, you will use *me gusta* followed by the infinitive, *dibujar*. If you don’t like drawing, simply preface the whole sentence with *no*.
Step 4
4 of 4
Use *con* and then a form of *mi amigo*, followed by your friends’ name(s), to complete this sentence. If your friend is a girl, use *amiga*. A boy? Use *amigo*. If you like drawing with multiple friends, use *mis amigos* UNLESS your group of friends is all girls, in which case you will use *mis amigas*.
Exercise 4
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section, you’re asked to say whether or not you like doing the activities pictured. In addition, say which friend(s) you do the activity with.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The fourth picture is of a chess piece.
Step 2
2 of 3
Back in Chapter 2, you learned that *el ajedrez* is how you say “chess” in Spanish. Combine this with *me gusta jugar*, which you learned early in this chapter, and you have your statement “*me gusta jugar al ajedrez”*. Note that, like with sports, you use “*al*” before the sport or game you’re talking about. To negate the sentence, simply preface the whole thing with *no*.
Step 3
3 of 3
Use *con* and a form of *amigo* to say who you like (or don’t like) playing chess with. As per the example, you will have to clarify who your friend is by saying their name. For example, “*…con mis amigos, Juan y Carlos”. Notice that since Juan and Carlos are two boys, we use the masculine, plural form of *amigo*.
Exercise 5
Step 1
1 of 4
In this section, you’re asked to say whether or not you like doing the activities pictured. In addition, say which friend(s) you do the activity with.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The example reads, “I like to go shopping with my friend, Mari”.
The fifth and final picture is of a movie ticket stub.
Step 2
2 of 4
On page 82 you learned the phrase *ir al cine*, meaning “to go to the movies”. This is the phrase you will want to use in your sentence.
Step 3
3 of 4
Since *ir* is an infinitive, and you’re talking about yourself using “I”, you will precede the activity with the singular *”yo*” form, *me gusta*. If you don’t like going to the movies, preface the whole sentence with *no*.
Step 4
4 of 4
Using *con* and a form of *mi amigo*, say the name of your friend, or friends, that you like (or don’t like) to go to the movies with. If you like going to movies with multiple people, make sure you use *mis* and the plural *amigos*, unless you’re going to the movies with only girls, in which case you will use the feminine, plural *amigas*.
