Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The first question asks “______ are you?” The response reads “I am well, thank you.”
Step 2
2 of 3
This is question that we learned way back at the beginning of Chapter 1. Here, María is asking her neighbor “how are you?”. The missing question word is *cómo*. Don’t forget the accent on the first “o”.

Exercise 2
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The second question asks “________ is your name?”. The response reads “My name is Jorge”.
Step 2
2 of 3
Here is another question that we learned very early on in Chapter 1. Two of the first questions we learned both use the same question word in their Spanish counterparts: “How are you?” and ” What is your name?”. Again, don’t forget the accent on the first “o” in *còmo*.

Exercise 3
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The third question asks “______ are you?”. The response is “I am from Puerto Rico”.
Step 2
2 of 3
Going from Spanish to English with this question is a little weird because it isn’t a verbatim translation. Instead, the Spanish version would directly translate to “from where are you?” Nevertheless, recall that *dónde* in Spanish means “where” so whenever you’re asking a question to do with location, *dónde* is the word you will use. Since this question is asking “where are you from?”, we also need to add *de* preceding the question word. Remember that all question words are written with accents!

Exercise 4
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The fourth question asks “_________ is your birthday?”. The response reads “It is the 10th of January”.
Step 2
2 of 3
Technically, there are a few different question words that could feasibly make logical sense in this blank. We need to look to the response to figure out which one it is. Since the response has to do with time (in this case, a specific day), we will be using the question word “when”, which in Spanish is *cuándo*. Don’t leave out the accent!

Exercise 5
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The fifth question asks “________ are you?” The response reads “I am a little serious and pretty active”.
Step 2
2 of 3
Since the response is someone describing themselves, we know the question will be asking them about who they are.
In English, we would most likely say “what are you like?” instead of the directly translated “how are you?”. Note that the only difference between “how are you?” and “what are you like?” in Spanish is that the former uses a form of *estar* and the latter uses a form of *ser*. Don’t forget the accent over the first “o” in *cómo*.

Exercise 6
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The sixth question asks “_______ are they?” The response reads “They are my friends Luisa and Óscar”.
Step 2
2 of 3
Note that in the question, *ser* is in its plural form and we know the subject of the question is *ellos*. This means that our question word (in this case, “who”), will be written in the plural. The chart on page 52 is a good refresher if you forget some of these words. According to the chart, *quiénes* takes an accent over the first “e”.

Exercise 7
Step 1
1 of 3
In this section you are asked to complete the question with the most logical question word (who, what, where, when, how). You are encouraged to use the responses in parenthesis as clues. The final question asks “_________ is it?”. The response reads “It is 3. I have to go.”
Step 2
2 of 3
This question involves vocabulary about time. You’ll recall this section from Chapter 1 when we learned how to read clocks. Although there are many different question words that could feasibly go in the blank, the response makes it very clear that they want you to use the phrase from Chapter 1 which asks “what time is it?”.
