In this question we’re asked to introduce the people in the photographs and say where they are from. This exercise is meant to reinforce the concepts from the chapter thus far, including:
– Gendered language
– *èste/èsta*
– *Es de…*

The Example reads:
“This is my friend Carolina. She is from Spain”

Using this model, we can look at the first one, which is a photo of Juan Josè from la República Dominicana.

Since Juan Josè is male we will be using the masculine form *èste*. We’ve learned, from the vocabulary box on this page, that “*es de* is how you say “is from” in Spanish. Putting all this together, with the fact that all these people are your friends, you should have everything you need to answer.

Èste es mi amigo Juan Josè. Èl es de la República Dominicana.

This question asks you to introduce María, from Cuba. Since María is a girl, we will be using the feminine *èsta*.

Èsta es mi amiga María. Ella es de Cuba.

In this question, you are asked to introduce your friend Blas, from Puerto Rico. While Blas is not a common name in English, we can see that its similar to Blaise (or Blaze) and is a male. Make sure you’re keeping the gender consistent in all the words of your phrase.

Èste es mi amigo Blas. Èl es de Puerto Rico.

In this question you are asked to introduce your friend Irma, from Mexico. Make sure you’re keeping all your gendered words feminine throughout the entire answer.

Èsta es mi amiga Irma. Ella es de México.

In this question you’re asked to introduce your friend Alberto, from the United States (*Estados Unidos*). Make sure you’re keeping all your gendered words consistent throughout your sentence, in this case keeping them all male (*èste, amigo, èl*).

Èste es mi amigo Alberto. Èl es de Estados Unidos.
