What is Need For Affiliation?
Humans are naturally social creatures who have an innate need for affiliation. This desire to develop relationships and form social bonds is one of the strongest human motivations. Affiliation has both psychological and physical benefits, as it helps people feel a sense of safety, security, and belonging in their environment. The need for affiliation starts early in life when infants interact with their parents or caretakers. This interaction provides them with a sense of comfort, which can be seen throughout life as they seek out similar experiences with other people through friendship, romantic relationships, family ties, etc. Through these social interactions, humans are able to find acceptance from others while developing a feeling of self-worth. Furthermore, being part of a group can provide individuals with support during difficult times by giving them someone to rely on and talk to about any problems they may be facing. Having strong affiliations also affects people’s mental health positively because it contributes to improved moods and reduces feelings of loneliness or isolation that often accompany depression or anxiety disorders. Studies show that those who maintain close relationships tend to have better mental health than those who do not nurture meaningful connections with others (Konrath et al., 2011). In addition to affecting mental well-being, having affiliations has been linked to better physical health due to decreased stress levels which can help improve overall immunity (Uchino et al., 2003). In conclusion, humans have a deep-seated need for affiliation that needs to be nurtured in order for individuals to lead healthy lives; physically and mentally. A lack of meaningful connection may result in negative consequences such as poor mental health outcomes like depression or anxiety disorder symptoms as well as increased physical illness due the presence of prolonged stress levels caused by loneliness or isolation from others . Therefore it is important for everyone take steps towards strengthening their existing affiliations or creating new ones if necessary so that they can reap all the benefits associated with having meaningful relationships .
