What is Human Somatic Cells?
Human somatic cells are the most abundant type of cell in the human body, making up more than 90% of our cells. They make up the majority of our organs and tissues, including muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels and internal organs. These cells are responsible for many important functions such as growth and repair as well as providing protection against disease.Somatic cells are also known as body or somatic cells to differentiate them from reproductive or germline cells which produce eggs and sperm so that reproduction can occur. Somatic cells contain genetic information inherited from both parents but this is not passed on to any offspring because it is not present in reproductive cells. Instead, it is used by the body for its own needs such as maintaining homeostasis (balance) within the body’s systems.
