The author of Music for My Mother came to America with his family at an early age. He, his father and brother l;earned to adapt to the ways of the new place they lived, but his mother did not. When singing to the mother, the sons still presented the music in Spanish to help appeal to the ways she missed her old home. Although the family adjusted to the new ways of America, as they got older, they continued to teach and value their native customs.
