More than what the climbers and government value them as. The author wants us to see they are wroth as much if not more than those paying for the trips because of their families and the risks they enter to help guide others.

Each year, climbers pay large amounts of money to climb Mt. Everest, with the guidance and most of the work being done by a Sherpa. At the beginning of the story, 16 have died from an avalanche, yet there is no mention of their loss, no true monetary value to help their families out and the climbers don’t and have never really seen their true value and how hard they work. The authors work is a plead to make this right.
