Covering the fish totally, Pi tried to kill it to use it to fish. No one watching, he still felt an incredible guilt about taking the life of the fish, even though it was a means to an end. Understanding he had no choice, Pi finally used his hands to break the neck of the flying fish-tears running down his face.
