What is Wellness?
Wellness is the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle that includes both physical and mental health. It involves activities and practices that promote overall wellbeing such as nutrition, exercise, stress-management, mental health, relaxation and sleep management. Wellness also encompasses maintaining healthy relationships with yourself and those around you. Good nutrition is an important part of wellness. Eating well-balanced meals that provide all the essential nutrients your body needs to function properly helps to strengthen the immune system, maintain energy levels and improve overall health. Being mindful of what you eat can reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes or heart disease in the future.Regular physical activity is another key component of wellness. Exercise not only helps keep your weight in check but also increases circulation throughout your body which can help reduce stress levels as well as improve mental clarity and focus. Even moderate levels of physical activity can have profound effects on overall wellbeing; it’s recommended to do some form of exercise at least three times per week for at least 30 minutes each time for optimal results. Stress management is also essential for maintaining wellness; too much stress can lead to a number of negative consequences on both physical and mental health including anxiety, depression, insomnia and weakened immune systems. Taking time out each day to relax through activities such as yoga or meditation can be beneficial in helping manage stress levels.
