The CEO typically has direct responsibility for driving profitability and growth through oversight of all functions within an organization. In some organizations, they also have responsibilities related to financial reporting, investor relations or other matters requiring board approval. The CEO’s primary job is to define strategies that will lead their organization to success while ensuring that those strategies are implemented effectively. This involves setting goals and objectives; developing policies; devising long-term plans; monitoring progress against goals; overseeing day-to-day business activities such as marketing initiatives, customer service programs; evaluating performance relative to competitors; identifying areas needing improvement or change; coordinating with outside stakeholders such as suppliers, vendors and regulatory agencies; motivating employees by creating a stimulating work environment with competitive compensation packages including stock options or profit sharing incentives when appropriate.
