What is A Level History?
A Level History is an advanced academic qualification which is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of significant events, people and ideas in history. This type of qualification requires hard work, dedication and the ability to think critically about the past. It requires knowledge of key facts but also an appreciation of how different interpretations have shaped our view of these events and individuals over time.At A Level History there are two main branches: British and World History. With British History, students will gain an understanding into Britain’s past including its political and social structures as well as its impact on other parts of the world. This area includes topics such as industrialisation, imperialism, politics & religion during different periods throughout history (e.g Medieval or Victorian). World History offers a more global approach with emphasis placed on how countries interacted with each other across centuries and how this has contributed to current day situations. Students can expect to gain insights into international relations between countries such as wars, conflicts & alliances; cultural contributions from various civilisations; economic developments through trade routes etc. They should be able to apply this understanding in order to appreciate current day geopolitics around the world. Overall A Level History provides students with essential skills for their future career paths whether that be further study at university or entering into specific areas within employment markets such as research or policy making etc.. The ability to look back at our past helps us understand why we are where we are today enabling us make informed decisions for our present and future generations alike.
