The culture of India has been shaped not only by its very long history, unique geography and diverse demography, but also by its ancient heritages, culture and traditions. Regarded by some historians as the "oldest living continuous civilization of Earth", the Indian tradition dates back to 8,000 BC and has a continuous recorded history for over 2,500 years (starting from Rig Vedic period). Indian Culture, which is one of the oldest & richest cultures, is now days posing a serious threat as western culture is establishing its strong base in India and slowly and gradually wiping the Indian culture and changes its shape.
After globalization (started since 1992 in India), It had already made its presence in Metro’s and now slowly heading towards other parts of India. Westernization has great
...ly affected our traditions, customs, our family and our respect and love for others. The concept of joint families is remarkably decreasing and everyone wants to remain aloof from others. Nobody now bother about others and only cares about himself/herself which is totally contradictory to our Indian culture which depicts that, to be a part of each other Joys and Sorrows to celebrate the moments together and share the grief together.
Day by day all our value for which India has the pride is vanishing & western culture is incubating in India with faster rate. There’s no harm in taking good things from western but this does not mean that we should completely adopt it and pretend to be western and misrepresents our identity. It is understandable that India is growing in every field and there is necessity of knowing all the
cultures and their traditions. It is shocking to see that Indians are forgetting their culture and western people are seeing India for obtaining salvation. They are coming here for seeking the true peace, which is total absent there.
India has earned a good name in the field of Yoga(AYUSH-Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidda and Homeopathy) and meditation were our gurus are giving teachings to western countries how to relax and lead a peaceful and satisfied life themselves & how to keep themselves away from disease and teachings on spirituality. Western culture is purely materialistic, while we are examining in micro level, the culture doesn’t has systematic procedure. Back to the history, it always to eager to gain money and power consequently waged a lots of war among them in western countries.
The culture has itself adjusted and changed its facets to circumstances of that area/country for example: Before First World War I, women are so many restrictions in the European society including clothing that is they have cover from top to bottom. After two big wars i. e. World War I and II, the male citizens of the country goes to wage a war, the societal and remaining all work should look after by women, suddenly they become employed and self supportive, they don’t care about the family system and started demanding rights equal to men.
Since there is no particular and fair system hadn’t been existed in their society how to woman behave and their importance for the family and forthcoming generations. The main impact of Western culture due to capitalistic forces from western culture, in their countries, the market has saturated.
Then they have been started looking towards India which very good market for them, started investing in India and established a strong base here, for their market, they promoting their products through clothing, accessories, luxury living etc. Which is alluring to any human mind and people of India also in same phase mainly people living in Metros and cities. the lack of morals, the lacking faith in God, having late night parties, the influence of drugs and alcohols, least interest in Indian languages like Sanskrit, Hindi, Celebrating mother’s day, father’s day, valentine day, fools day etc rather than celebrating our Indian festivals and thus wasting their precious time of life, Thinking to be independent at an early age in the name of freedom and well educated.
It is very unfortunate that today’s generation has very little knowledge about their culture, traditions & their roots. This is not their mistake but the mistake of their parents who does not enlighten their children about their roots about their rich cultural heritage. On the other hand there is possibility to teach them because to survive in this competitive world, they couldn’t care about other things other than studies i. e. staying in hostels and corporate education and unfair competition and studying the courses irrespective of their interests.
One good thing is from the western culture, there is no kind of caste system. Regarding caste, western culture has positive impact in normal societal life, India still very much caste dominated and caste based in some areas i. e. mainly in Political system and in promotional channel in private firms and companies. Whatever, Impact of western culture on
India Culture affected most of the parts negatively. This is the time to realize the Indians what is good and what bad . Try is hard to conserve our rich cultural heritage and spiritual thinking and also try to wipe out caste system and superstitions.
