Chester NZ, an ordinary Navajo Indian born in Caliphate in the Navajo Nation, had to walk 15-20 miles to the grass for their sheep every day. However, the Navajo nation did not complain as they collaborated and shared their peaceful time. Their daily routine caused the population of livestock to grow bigger, but it led to the federal government implementing a livestock-reduction policy due to overgrazing damaging the land. His grandmother cried one fateful night when more than half of her sheep were dead. When Chester NZ turned 18 and Pearl Harbor was attacked, the Americans needed more men. Thus, U. S. Marines looked for a noteworthy type of guy, and they got their answer in the Navajo Indians. Chester NZ was one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers that were informed of their mission to make an
...unbreakable code. They successfully devised a code that remained unbroken in modern warfare.
Lie Zimmerman bears a connection with Chester NZ in terms of having an unexpected mission. While Lie is an Olympian striving for breaking records and winning medals, Chester NZ faced hardships concerning his heritage and culture beyond his home. Everything came too quickly for them to comprehend their past.I'm curious if Chester witnessed the sheep being burned in the trenches. If he did, I'd like to know how he would describe that experience. During a presentation, Chester shared a simple yet powerful statement that surprised me. He was asked about his most memorable moment and responded with "herding sheep." This revealed to me how deeply he cared about his grandma's sheep and how central they were to his
life. I also wonder if he learned anything unexpected during his time at war.
