Training Programs in Discrimination Prevention Claims Essay Example
Most employers have the awareness that they must and should prevent discrimination from happening in the workplace. Failing to prevent discrimination in the organization can be costly and can cause an increase in the turnover of employees and absenteeism. Discrimination may also cause lower morale for the employees that affect productivity and increase insurance premiums and defense costs. Therefore, it is paramount for employees to prevent discrimination from taking place. One way of reducing discrimination claims is by carrying out training programs in the organization. The training program will make both the employees and employers to be familiar with all the applicable antidiscrimination laws that will enable them to comply with the laws provided at the state and local levels.
The training programs highlight the goal for employers to eliminate discrimination and harassment and otherwise give reinforcement to values of the employer’s professionalism a
...nd mutual respect created in the workplace. The training program strives to prevent discrimination by making sure that employees are aware of policies provided by the employers and the procedures concerning discrimination and harassment, incorporating how they should report allegations of discrimination and prohibitions against retaliation. The program should extend well beyond aspects that are related to sexual harassment to make sure that employees familiarize with all issues concerning discrimination and retaliation.
Besides, the program should encourage employees to contribute to the training program and give out real world examples. This will enable employees to recognize and report incidents of discrimination when it happens. An effective training program for discrimination should develop an “affirmative defense” to prevent liability in the situation where employees submit Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) claim. The training program should also
cover aspects such as the importance of diversity, consensual relationships, respect and disrespect in the workplace, unwelcome physical behaviors and unwelcome verbal behaviors.
