Throughout the centuries, the United States has held a dominant position in the world thanks to its formidable power that makes the idea of it being reduced to a secondary role impossible. Beginning in the late 1800s, America established various "empires," which referred to the unification of client states and traditional colonies in a voluntary manner.
It is possible that the growth of America's power is linked with their consistent expansion of worldwide influence through the acquisition of former empires once held by major powers, which was aided by multiple wars (Heilbrunn and Lind, 1996). The second American empire, considered the most significant of all recorded empires, reflects the almost-failure of American power. Alice H.Amsden (2007), the author of “Escape from Empire: The Developing world's journey through heaven and hell,” claims that the second American empire began during the 1980 elections of
...Ronald Raegan and Margaret Thathcher.
The second American empire strayed from the established practices of the first empire, which was viewed as prosperous until Richard Nixon's era. Instead, it focused on collective action to compete with other powerful nations at that time. Unfortunately, this caused the empire to neglect some of its third world colonies, not realizing that these countries relied on the principles embedded by American culture. Consequently, certain colonies experienced zero growth in their income per capita, and some Asian countries experienced slow growth (Amsden, 2007). These observations demonstrate that changes in economic policy during the second American empire had significant repercussions not only for the host country but also for its colonies.
Despite America's efforts to enhance its status as a superpower, certain colonies were left vulnerable to foreign competitors, leadin
to financial instability. Lessons must be learned from this situation, and more adaptable agreements are necessary to safeguard alliances with other nations. These protectorates, which were gathered many years ago, may be the key to future support.
