What is Theories?
Theories of Maslow and Herzberg are two of the most influential theories in the field of motivation. Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is one of the most widely recognized theories, while Frederick Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory offers an invaluable insight into how individuals can be motivated to achieve their desired goals. Both theories have had a lasting impact on business strategies, providing essential insights into human behavior.Abraham Maslow proposed his theory in 1943, stating that humans have five hierarchical needs; physiological (food and water), safety (security from harm), love/belonging (social acceptance), esteem (self-respect) and self-actualization (fulfillment). According to this theory, these needs must be met in order for an individual to reach optimum levels of productivity. The idea behind this theory is that if basic needs such as food or security are not met then higher level motivators such as recognition or fulfillment will not come into play. This concept has been incredibly useful when it comes to motivating employees by understanding what is needed for them to perform at their best. Frederick Herzberg was another key figure in motivational research and his Two Factor Theory provided a unique perspective on employee satisfaction and motivation. His theory proposes that there are two factors contributing towards job satisfaction: hygiene factors which represent basic elements including salary, working conditions etc., and motivators which refer more to intangible rewards like recognition or responsibility given within a role. His findings suggest that hygiene factors may prevent dissatisfaction but they do not lead directly to satisfaction whereas motivators contribute directly to increased morale among workers which leads to increased performance overall. This model provides valuable guidance for employers looking for ways maintain positive attitudes amongst staff members through tangible incentives as well as intangible ones such as praise or responsibility given within roles. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs & Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory remain some of the most influential models when it comes managing people effectively in order increase productivity & motivate employees leading better performance & results overall . By understanding both theories businesses can create effective strategies based around meeting basic employee needs whilst simultaneously rewarding work with tangible & intangible incentives which goes beyond just additional monetary compensation allowing companies create better workplace environments where everyone feels appreciated & rewarded thus making them more likely stay longer with organization resulting increased loyalty improved outcomes .
