A nurse has committed a medication error. After ensuring the client’s safety, the nurse should perform what action? Report the event according to the health care facility’s policies. Submit a drug error report to the National League for Nursing. Report the event to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices. Ensure that each of the nurse’s colleagues knows about the event.
Report the event according to the health care facility’s policies. If a nurse sees or participates in a medication error, the nurse first reports the error to the institution and then to the national reporting program. Drug errors are not reported to the NLN. It is not necessary for each of the nurse’s colleagues to know about the error, though information should be shared in a way that promotes safety.

Virginia Henderson aka “The Nightingale of Modern Nursing,” the “Modern-Day Mother of Nursing,” and “The 20th century Florence Nightingale” Created the Definition of Nursing in the 1960’s, which articulates the concept that the patient is a person who requires help towards independence. In 1937, co-created a basic nursing curriculum for the National League for Nursing, in which education was “patient-centered and organized around nursing problems rather than medical diagnoses” She conceptualized that the nurse’s role was one of assisting sick or well individuals to gain independence in meeting 14 fundamental needs.” She also identified the importance of collaboration with healthcare providers, patients, and their families.
A document jointly developed by the ANA and the National League for Nursing (NLN) that was significant in terms of its expression of nursing’s values and in furthering an understanding of the profession itself. Values such as health services for all, illness prevention, and wellness were identified as prominent concerns.
