What is Five Factor Model?
The Five Factor Model (also known as the Big Five Personality Traits) is a widely accepted and highly popular personality theory. It is based on five broad domains or traits that have been identified in people’s personalities: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. The model has become the most widely accepted personality assessment used by psychologists today. Openness to Experience refers to how open someone is to new ideas and experiences. People who are high in Openness tend to be curious and interested in trying out new things. They also may be more creative and enjoy intellectual pursuits such as reading books or engaging in deep conversations with others. People who are low in Openness tend to be more traditional and conservative in their attitudes towards life. Conscientiousness refers to how organized, responsible, dependable, and detail-oriented someone is. People who are high in Conscientiousness generally stick to schedules, finish tasks before deadlines, don’t take risks or act impulsively without cautioning themselves first about the consequences of their actions. On the other hand those who are low in Conscientiousness tend to procrastinate on work tasks because they lack motivation or can’t focus long enough on a task at hand due to distractions like social media or video games etc. Extraversion refers to how outgoing someone is towards other people – whether they prefer socializing with large groups of people or prefer one-on-one time with friends/family members/partners etc. Those who are high in Extraversion tend to be talkative around strangers and enjoy attending parties/events where they can meet new people while those who are low Extraversion may prefer staying home alone instead of meeting up with others for social events where there will be large crowds present. Agreeableness refers to how well someone gets along with others – whether they’re cooperative/trustworthy/generous etc. Those who score higher on this trait usually make good team players since they follow rules well without causing any trouble for anyone else around them while those lower on Agreeableness may struggle when it comes interacting peacefully with peers due disagreements over ideas etc. Lastly Neuroticism refers to how emotional stable someone is – whether they’re prone towards feeling anxious or depressed easily over minor issues vs having a cool head during stressful situations etc.
