What is Conduction System Of The Heart?

The conduction system of the heart is an important part of the cardiovascular system that helps to coordinate and regulate cardiac activity. It consists of four major components: the sinoatrial node (SA node), atrioventricular node (AV node), bundle of His, and Purkinje fibers. These structures are responsible for generating electrical impulses that travel throughout the heart, causing it to contract in a rhythmical manner. The SA node is located in the upper right chamber of the heart called the right atrium. It initiates each heartbeat by producing an electrical impulse which then spreads through both atria, stimulating them to contract simultaneously. This impulse then travels down into the AV node where it is further delayed before passing into Bundle of His which divides further into two branches – left and right bundle branches – that spread throughout ventricles allowing them to contract as well. Finally, these impulses reach Purkinje fibers which stimulate contraction of all remaining muscle cells within ventricles thus completing one cycle of heartbeat.This entire process occurs with remarkable speed and accuracy; typically it takes around 0.1 second for an impulse generated by SA node to cause complete contraction-relaxation cycle within human heart. In addition, conduction system also plays role in certain medical conditions like arrhythmias or tachycardia when normal rhythm becomes disrupted due to malfunctioning or damage in any components mentioned above leading either too slow or too fast rate respectively. Thus overall this complex yet essential mechanism ensures regular functioning of our hearts making sure we stay healthy and active.
