When listening to someone explain their likes and dislikes, it is a good idea to listen for intonation and emphasis. Even if you don’t understand what the speaker is saying, from their tone of voice you can likely glean how they feel about any given topic. This is not always the case, but it is another piece of information that you can listen for to help answer questions like these.
From the answer chart, we know what kinds of answers we need to listen for. A good strategy for these exercises is to spend some time looking at the answer chart to figure out what information demands our attention. Once we look at it, we learn that the most important information to track is: who is saying what; what kind of art is being discussed; and what Mary and Takeshi feel about each type. If we can gather all of that information, we can answer the question correctly. Check the explanation cells for the answer.
