There are four levels of security service typologies. The highest level, Level IV, is represented by the Secret Service or a sheriff’s department. Level III possesses full governmental powers but lacks the experience of Level IV. Level II has limited governmental powers but abundant resources, with examples such as casino security and community police.
The lowest level, Level I, refers to positions with no powers or resources, such as Menards security or hospital security. An example of Level II security service typology is Elite Services, previously called Elite Show Services. Security officers at Elite are obligated to undergo regular training on the fundamentals of security.
Elite has job opportunities available for various special events such as fairs, concerts, sporting events, conventions, and more. These events generally do not necessitate the use of hand cuffs, searches, or carr
...ying a fire arm. However, Elite provides training for employees who wish to become licensed to carry a fire arm or hand cuffs. Once certified, employees can work events that require these services. It is important for certified employees to keep their license with them at all times during the event.
Scheduling staff for events is a form of self-scheduling, where employees can call in to get scheduled for available events during the current and following weeks. The hours are determined based on the employee's availability, making it suitable for those with part-time availability. This system allows employees to set their own hours. The Secret Service exemplifies a Level IV security service typology and is comprised of highly trained individuals.
The Secret Service hires individuals who have the authority to carry firearms and employ deadly force in order to safeguard prominent figures, such
as the President of the United States. This role is both highly risky and demanding, mainly because of the elevated status of those being protected. Obtaining a position in the Secret Service is more difficult than securing employment at an organization like Elite, since it requires rigorous training and thorough background checks.
The Secret Service hiring process may take longer due to specific requirements, while at Elite, you can be hired and oriented in under two days. In summary, Level IV and Level II security services differ significantly, primarily in that Level IV has the authority to use deadly force, whereas Level II does not. However, there are similarities between the two regarding responsibilities and training.
