Significance of Governor John Winthrop to the America Essay Example
John Winthrop is a symbol of the lifespan of the Puritan community, in his life, he entirely devoted his time and resources to support the Puritans. Having fled from the New England to America, Winthrop established himself in the Boston City where he continued to serve as a puritan. Winthrop is a great decision maker, at a time when the church had oppressive rules, unlike those who opted to fight the church from outside, who chose to be a puritan and when he realised he could not achieve his desires he wanted to move to America. John is an evident example of one who fights for the truth which he believes. He is indeed a great puritan who positively changed the American colonial history.
John Winthrop was a great political spokesman, and his speech has influenced many including John F Kennedy who on
...numerous occasions referred to his teachings. During their immigration to America he talked to his fellow Puritans that they were an icon who were to be watched by the universe, taking a city on the hill, as an attorney he lived with this words with fellow Puritans, it is this belief that enabled them to build their trading Massachusetts Bay. He is indeed an icon of a development oriented leader (Ed 2004).
Governor Winthrop championed for the development of Massachusetts Bay Company which was dominated by other Puritans. He was an opportunist leader who capitalised on an oversight of the London authority to approve certificate to trade; allowing them to set new laws and govern themselves without direct control from the centralised power. Boston city which became the capital of Massachusetts Bay Company. Governor Winthrop is indeed an accurate reflection of the leadership that can is admirable.
Governor Winthrop negotiated for the immigration of the Puritans from New England felt oppressed. Being an attorney he played d a significant role in the development of the Cambridge Agreement. As the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Company, John was very philanthropic and charitable. He donated his money and built houses to the numerous Puritan immigrants. During his tenure as the governor, he encouraged more of the Puritans to settle in Boston (Michael 2006).
Governor Winthrop is an example to the world on rightful leaving. Despite being the president of the Massachusetts Bay Company, in most of his time, he took moments setting examples of great leadership by joining the servants and the labourers in the work of the colony. John developed the Christian charity model to serve a reminder to his fellow Puritans about their origin; the importance of abiding by the biblical teachings of ever working together as a people and this acted as a clear indication of someone who promoted peaceful coexistence among people. Despite a call by his home country for his return, he chose to remain faithful to his empire, and this depicted his trait of being right to his servants or rather fellow Puritans (John 1825). Governor Winthrop changed the colonial history of the Americans for better as he is amongst the pioneer leaders who championed for fights against oppression. He was a human activist who fought for the minority in society.
