“Cultural Mosaic“ There are many different types of ethnicities throughout the world, all of which have their own system of living, praying, and joining with one another. We as humans refer to this as culture, culture sums up everything that we do as citizens or do differently as persons in one word. This word is used all over the globe to give people what they deserve, their own way of living. The United States of America is a very diverse place which is made up of many cultures or ways of living. We usually refer to this as the “melting pot” of the world because of how different we are from each other as well as how all of our different cultures interact with each other.
Another term some use is there expression “cultural mosaic”, this phrase is used to describe the
...mix of ethnic group, languages and cultures that coexist within Canadian society. The idea of a cultural mosaic is intended to champion an ideal of multiculturalism, differently from other systems like the melting pot.Lebanon which was first settled on in 5000 BC has become what we would like to refer to as a “mosaic society”, a society in which has absorbed immigrants from all over the world. A cultural mosaic is a theory that suggests that society should encourage ethnic groups to maintain their ethnic diversity and identity. These groups of people have tried to give themselves a new way of life by moving to a new habitat. None of which give up their traditions or beliefs, but all of which have made the agreement that they are different from each other.
These cultures recognize
that they will have to understand each other in order to live their lives in the area in which they have chosen to settle. Immigration is how a mosaic society is formed. The term immigrations is used to describe the movement of people from one country to another. These immigrants are absorb into these societies and embraced. People weren’t always embraced with kindness and love, for a long time it was hard for immigrants to be accepted. Many people felt that these immigrants were going to take their jobs and land, not thinking about what a cultural diverse area would bring to their society.
The term mosaic was first used in a book written by John Murray Gibbon that was titled Canadian Mosaic. He felt that the term “melting pot” was used to describe the process by which immigrants would cut off their ties with their countries and cultures origin so as to assimilate into the American way of life. He felt that if persons of different origins wanted to immigrate to another country the term was false. These people were only trying to find a new and better place to form a new way of life.
Some say that the mosaic concept encourages immigrant communities to remain concentrated and segregated in certain areas or that it implies that they should never be considered Canadians. We shouldn’t confuse the cultural mosaic and melting pot with the term multiculturalism, which refers to the state of racial, cultural and ethnic diversity within the demographics of a specified place. State would refer to the way people have developed themselves around the changes that have been brought upon them.Canada is world
renown for being one of the most tolerant, welcoming, and democratic countries in the world - a dynamic mosaic of multiculturalism where people live and work together in harmony.
Over the past 150 years, more than 14 million people have immigrated to Canada, with 16% of the 30 million citizens being first-generation immigrants. The Government of Canada is committed to a policy of diversity designed to preserve and enhance the multicultural heritage of Canadians, while striving to achieve equality in the economic, social, cultural and political aspects of Canada. In 1991, the Department of Multiculturalism and Citizenship conducted a survey, which revealed high levels of Canadian values and identity. Immigration is the key to forming a mosaic society people come from all over the world and begun to settle.
Over time many different ethnicities and cultures have poured their way into Canada, which has now become progressively more and more multi-ethnic and multicultural. As a result, the number of visible minorities in Lebanon is growing.Lebanon has the perfect demographics for immigration, sitting right off of the Mediterranean Sea with the Lebanon Mountains blocking the ability for immigrants to travel into Syria. Since Lebanon has a republic government system, this makes it possible for these cultures to enjoy their traditions and culturally differences. Although Lebanon and its surrounding countries haven’t always see eye to eye on certain subjects as far as politics and religion goes, this is a key area for immigration.
Much like Canada is a way out, Lebanon is a place to get away from the harsh conditions in Syria and Israel.
