As the project manager of HiTech, I have noticed that several workers have a habit of being absent. Absenteeism is a significant issue for many companies globally and can have negative financial implications and impact production. When a worker is absent, the company must either hire a temporary replacement or have another staff member work overtime. Motivation and attendance are influenced by job satisfaction and the pressure to come to work. Repeated absenteeism may indicate that the employee wants to leave the job (Langdon et al. 2016).
The employee's attitude towards their work is crucial. If they are satisfied and feel appreciated, they will be enthusiastic about coming to the workplace. Conversely, if the work environment displays negative attitudes, the employee is likely to regularly miss work. Negative attitudes, such as low pay or unjust denial of promotions, can affect employee turnout. Additionally, the perception of how much the organiz
...ation values their contribution also influences attendance. HiTech owners should consider these factors to determine the cause of increased absenteeism in their company (Langdon et al., 2016).
Recommendations
I would suggest that the management first prioritize task-related procedures to ensure that all team members actively contribute to the team's goals. Research has shown that virtual teams that incorporate task processes perform better than teams that work in the same physical location. To achieve this, HiTech managers should implement mechanisms that support both task-related and socio-economic procedures within virtual teams. These task-related systems should focus on leveraging the expertise and skills of team members. Additionally, HiTech managers should organize face-to-face meetings for virtual team members. These meetings are crucial for fostering social processes that enhance team identification, cohesion, and informa
communication among members. It would be beneficial to hold these meetings at the beginning of a project to facilitate familiarity among team members.
As the project manager, I suggest that the owners of HiTech consider implementing a system to reward employees who consistently attend work and to punish those with poor attendance. This could involve tagging employees with a specific number of permitted absences, with consequences for those who exceed this limit and rewards for those who do not. Additionally, introducing programs such as stress management, fitness plans, and exercise breaks would help address the issue of absenteeism. Strategic policies could also be established to restrict workers from using personal time at the workplace, thereby achieving a better work-life balance. Temporary strategies such as job sharing, part-time positions, and flexi-time schedules could be employed where employees leave their workstations once they meet their objectives. Finally, I recommend that HiTech owners focus on resolving current challenges before expanding their operation base, as these issues could potentially transfer to new branches and have long-term consequences.
Difficulties faced in implementing the recommendations.
Implementing recommendations always comes with its own set of challenges. These challenges can include various limitations that may hinder the implementation process.
1. The expenses included
Every implementation of new strategies or recommendations incurs costs. The company must prioritize and choose what to sacrifice in order to execute these proposals, considering that the price may seem too high for the owners.
2. Rejection by the workers
The workers of the company may resist certain changes, especially if they are implemented abruptly and without their consent. Additionally, the company's culture is not easily and quickly changeable, as it can significantly or entirely disrupt what
employees consider their established ways of working.
3. Time
Time is a critical factor when implementing strategies. The HiTech organizational issues have already resulted in significant damage to the company's reputation, including the loss of expert designers. The company may not be able to quickly recover as implementing these recommendations could be time-consuming.
