The application of biotechnology has significantly advanced human life and the environment. To gain practical experience in this field, I visited Scrim Bertha, a Malaysian government-owned company dedicated to discovering and developing high-quality technologies. On August 21, 2013 at 9 AM, I arrived at the well-guarded and clean compound filled with eagerness and excitement.
In a conference room, we received a briefing on the company's history and scope of work. The company focuses on fermentation, microbial testing, and obsessions. After the briefing, we had the opportunity to tour various laboratories where these tests are conducted.
Our first stop was the microbial laboratory where we observed a test mechanism involving collecting soil samples from bushes. Microscopic techniques were used to separate microorganisms for further study. We also saw already cultured sample

Next, we visited the obsessions laboratory which conducts tests for ammonia, dengue, glucose, and uric acid. It was fascinating to learn that current intensity variations can detect the presence and rate of ammonia. During my visit to the bio cosmetic laboratory, I was impressed by the clean working environment.The range of cosmetic products produced by the company such as lipstick, shampoo,lotion ,cream ,and compact powder caught my attention.
It was interesting to learn that these products undergo testing on volunteers before being released to the market. Additionally, I had the opportunity to explore the fermentation laboratory where four large tanks were housed. Unfortunately, I couldn't observe their operation as they are only used periodically when there is a production order. After our visit, as a token of gratitude for choosing to visit Scrim, we were treated t
a complimentary lunch. We left the company around 1PM and returned to Nail University. This field trip provided valuable insight into what I can expect in the working field after graduation, alleviating my worries about feeling uncertain or unprepared on my first day of work. It was reassuring to discover that orientations are conducted for new staff members and regular training sessions are offered to employees, boosting my confidence and passion for biotechnology and its advancements.
