The Labor Standards Act, also known as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FALLS), is a federal law that oversees child labor, minimum wages, and overtime. Its purpose is to safeguard workers from unjust labor practices like unequal pay, excessive work hours, and lack of overtime compensation. FALLS has specific regulations concerning child labor which include the prohibition of children under 14 from working and regulation of employment for those aged 14 to 18. In nonagricultural operations, it limits the working hours for children under 16 and prohibits certain hazardous jobs for those under 18.
