The Huddled Masses, the Immigrant in American Society Essay Example
The assignment is based on the analysis of the book The Huddled Masses, the Immigrant in American Society, 1880-1921 which is authored by Alen M. Kraut who is a scholar of ethnic and immigration history. Kraut emphasized on the experience of immigrants on how they were affected by entertainment, education and how they would gain from perspective on ancestral roots. The book is an interesting egotistical story of immigration. According to the author there are much new immigration which is was supported by decision to leave the old world.
The new immigration refereed only to the Eastern and southern Europeans and even Japanese and Chinese who arrived in United States from 1880 – 1921. Knaut noted that the migrants have several choices to make on where to migrate to and the main reason for the migration was i
...n search of a better life. The decision to migrate to America was based on the fact they were convinced that they will get better life there. The immigrants were also lured to their destination by influence of social, cultural and other pressures which forced them to migrate.
The book also evaluates on the impact of the immigrants to America economic activities, development in agriculture and Industrialization which followed there after the arrival of new country men who come with new skills on their operations. Kraut has organized the immigrant ethic groups of Japanese, Chinese and other groups on what influenced them to migrate and their role on development of America during the time of migration.
Krant admits that the migrants were not forced or attracted by any force as it is contrarily documented b
other history scholars but the migration during those years was motivated by the migrant’s rational will to migrate in search of better life in America. The author also documented on the critical role which was played by the immigrant’s native culture and values to those people whom they got at there.
