What is Ohio River Valley?
The Ohio River Valley is an area located in the Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. It runs from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania down to Cairo, Illinois and is a major tributary of the Mississippi River. This region has been home to many cultures over time including Native American tribes such as the Shawnee, Miami and Delaware as well as early settlers coming from Europe during colonial times.Throughout history, this river valley was an important pathway for trade between parts of North America and allowed for exploration by those who were willing to brave its treacherous waters. During the 1800’s it became even more significant with steamboats ferrying goods up and down the river which allowed for increased economic growth throughout these areas. In addition, resources like coal that were mined along its banks made possible industrialization around each bend of the river thus further fueling economic expansion within this region. In modern times, its importance hasn’t diminished either; It still serves as a main source for transportation whether through barges or ferries carrying goods across state lines or people traveling on pleasure cruises along its winding shores admiring its natural beauty while getting lost in time. The Ohio River Valley continues to be one of the most vibrant regions in America due to all that it offers: stunning scenery, rich history, abundant resources and bustling towns filled with life.
