What is New England Colonies?

The New England Colonies of the United States were some of the earliest established colonial settlements, founded in the 17th century by English Puritans. Spanning from present-day Massachusetts to Maine, these colonies played an important role in early American history and the development of U.S. democracy. The first colony was established at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts in 1620 when a group of roughly 100 Pilgrims arrived seeking religious freedom after escaping persecution in England. The majority of these settlers were members of the Separatist congregation who wanted to be able to practice their faith without fear or interference from outside forces. This settlement soon became known as the shining city on a hill due to its dedication to providing equality and justice for all citizens regardless of religion or origin. From here, other settlements began popping up including Salem, Boston and Providence among others that would form one cohesive region known as New England. Each settlement had distinctive characteristics but shared a common goal – self-governance based on religious values such as hard work, education and thriftiness which they believed would lead them closer to God’s will and create a morally upright society free from sinfulness or debauchery so commonly found elsewhere in Europe during this time period. Life in New England was far from easy but with cooperation between colonists it was possible to survive even under harsh weather conditions like those experienced during winter months when food supplies ran low or fishing trips proved unsuccessful due to rough seas. In addition, local Native American tribes were often friendly towards settlers which allowed for much needed resources such as land for farming along with fish and game meats that could otherwise not be obtained through traditional means alone making life more bearable overall especially during difficult times like extreme weather seasons or droughts/famines caused by natural disasters etc.
