What is Journalism?

Journalism is an important part of modern society. It is the practice of communication and reporting news, events and information in a timely manner. Journalism involves researching, interviewing, writing and communicating stories to inform or entertain readers. Journalists are responsible for informing the public about current events and issues taking place in their local communities, countries or around the world. They also provide analysis on political, economic and social matters in order to help readers understand more about the topics being discussed.Journalism can take many forms including print journalism (newspapers, magazines), broadcast journalism (television and radio news programs) as well as online journalism (websites). Each form has its own strengths and weaknesses depending on what type of story needs to be told or shared. Print journalism gives journalists more space to tell their stories by providing more than just a headline; whereas broadcast journalism enables them to communicate with viewers instantly via television or radio news programs. Online journalism offers journalists the ability to quickly reach large audiences from all around the world with updated content that can be easily accessed anywhere with an internet connection. The role of journalists is critical in helping people make sense of complex issues or events through storytelling which includes providing context, perspectives and facts to events taking place around them. Journalists are also responsible for verifying facts before publishing any piece of information so as not to mislead their audiences on matters that could potentially have grave consequences if taken out of context or misunderstood by readership/viewership numbers nationally/internationally. Although there are some challenges associated with this profession such as lack of secure jobs due to digital media monopolies like Google & Facebook eating up ad revenue opportunities & budget cuts at traditional media outlets; quality & ethical journalism still remains an essential pillar in all democracies today where it acts as a check & balance system that holds governments accountable for their actions while also protecting citizens’ rights against abuse from those in powerful positions like elected officials etc.
