What is Egypt?
Egypt is a country located in the northeastern corner of Africa, and is well known for its long and fascinating history. Egypt is home to some of the oldest civilizations on Earth, as well as many iconic landmarks like the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Valley of Kings. Egypt has a rich cultural heritage, which is reflected in its art, architecture, cuisine and language. The country has also been an important center for trade and learning since ancient times.The people of Egypt are diverse; with different ethnicities such as Arabs, Nubians, Bedouins, Greeks and Turks living together peacefully since before recorded history. The official language of Egypt is Arabic but English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Egyptian culture has been heavily influenced by other cultures such as those from Greece and Turkey. Music plays an important role in everyday life in Egypt; popular music includes both traditional Arabic songs as well as modern pop songs from all over the world.Egyptian cuisine reflects a combination of influences from around the region including North African dishes such as couscous or tajine along with Turkish-style kebabs or shawarma sandwiches made with pita breads that are a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Street food can be found throughout major cities like Cairo; popular snacks include falafel (deep-fried balls made from chickpeas) or taamiya (a type of fried patty made with fava beans). Popular desserts include baklava (a sweet pastry filled with nuts) or kunafa (made with shredded phyllo dough soaked in sweet syrup). In terms of sports, football (soccer) is especially popular among Egyptians; it’s often seen being played on streets throughout Cairo during weekends or holidays. Other common sports include squash, badminton and basketball although traditional activities such camel racing can still be seen at fairs throughout rural areas. Overall there’s much to explore when it comes to visiting Egypt whether you’re looking for adventure through ancient sites or sampling local flavors this North African nation offers something unique for everyone.
