What is Better Business Bureau?
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ethical business practices and providing consumers with reliable information about the businesses they interact with. Founded in 1912, the BBB has a long history of helping customers by monitoring and rating companies’ performance on issues such as trustworthiness, customer service, marketplace ethics, and product quality. The organization also provides consumers with education on various topics related to their purchases and services. The mission of the BBB is to promote an ethical marketplace by creating a level playing field for businesses and customers alike. To this end, it offers free resources for evaluating companies before making purchase decisions or entering into services contracts. It maintains databases of customer feedback from different companies so that customers can make informed decisions when considering any business transaction. The BBB also takes part in dispute resolution between customers and businesses. If a customer has an unresolved complaint against a business that they are unable to resolve via direct contact, they can file an inquiry through the BBB which will investigate the matter further and attempt to mediate solutions satisfactory to both parties involved. The organization also works closely with law enforcement organizations when necessary in order to protect customer rights. In addition to its consumer protection duties, the Better Business Bureau also provides educational programs aimed at helping both consumers and businesses understand how best practices lead to successful interactions between them. This includes seminars on topics such as advertising regulations, payment policies, consumer privacy laws, dispute resolution methods, data security protocols and more all designed with the goal of ensuring fairness for all market participants. Ultimately, the Better Business Bureau is focused on maintaining a healthy balance between businesses’ needs for reliable operations while safeguarding consumer interests through its comprehensive suite of services designed specifically for this purpose.
