South Korea’s President Park’s Scandal And Her Achievements As A Women And Downfall Essay Example
Park Geun-hye has been the first woman head of state and the sitting president of South Korea since 2013.
Park's presidency had been consistently popular until recently, when she became involved in a scandal. Allegations arose that Park shared official and confidential information with her non-governmental friend, Choi Soon-Sil (Schwekendiek 410). Choi is known to be Park's confidant, possibly explaining why Park didn't see an issue with sharing state documents. She may have overlooked the potential harm this could cause to both the state and her reputation. Consequently, Choi has faced accusations of covertly interfering with and influencing state affairs. The specific content of the documents was not publicly disclosed, but Park admitted her mistake and openly apologized for causing public concern.
Despite claiming no ill intention, the accusation of conspiring with criminals cannot be denied by her. This is partic
...ularly true when considering the additional allegation that Ms. Choi embezzled a significant amount of money from the business (Kang 351). Consequently, there is widespread anger towards Park, with numerous calls for her resignation or impeachment. It is noteworthy that women, in particular, appear to be profoundly impacted by this situation and it remains uncertain whether another woman will have the opportunity to hold a similar position in the future.
Following the revelation, South Korean citizens have staged multiple protests and openly voiced their belief that Park is unsuitable as their representative (Kang 362). In an additional effort to restore stability, Park made a second mistake by replacing key government figures, such as the prime minister and finance minister. Consequently, the situation has become even more scandalous, posing difficulties in rebuilding public trust.
During her presidency, Park has achieve
several notable accomplishments. One significant aspect of her leadership has been her focus on promoting economic development and aiming to improve the happiness of the people. For instance, she signed a free trade agreement with Australia to increase job opportunities for her citizens (Kang et al 233). Additionally, Park has collaborated with the United States to support the growth and development of South Korea. In terms of security, she has consistently taken a strong stance, particularly regarding countering the threats posed by North Korea.
Despite Park's efforts to stimulate the economy, reliable sources reveal that it remains weaker compared to other states (Sungwoo & Michael 279). Furthermore, her lack of effectiveness in communication has drawn criticism from the public who are rarely satisfied with her messages. The recent scandal further highlights her poor handling of state affairs, posing a threat to the people of South Korea. In conclusion, Park's presidency is significantly compromised by the damaging effects of her scandal.
South Korea is enraged by the president's actions, which are causing security concerns. Additionally, the people are upset about outside forces seemingly influencing key presidential decisions. The president seems to be endorsing fraudulence as her confidant, Ms. Choi, who is accused of fraudulent activities. While Park has had some accomplishments and failures during her governance, she may be compelled to step down from office before her term expires due to the imminent threat of impeachment.
If women presidents all over the world face this situation, it could result in a decline in their perceived effectiveness and credibility.
