Issues Discussed in the First and Third Presidential Debates Essay Example
The Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, arranges the presidential debate. It is an essential occasion for Americans to listen to the candidates' plans and strategies. The initial debate on September 26, 2016, mainly concentrated on the economic difficulties facing the American economy (Michel 6).
When discussing job creation, the presidential candidates presented contrasting views on income equality and employment generation. Clinton believed that America's unemployment problem was caused by inadequate planning and suggested that it could be addressed through economic expansion and increased government spending (Michel 9). On the other hand, Trump blamed capital flight for the issue and specifically criticized China for luring American companies away. As an experienced politician with extensive government service, Clinton defended herself against her opponent's allegations about job creation (Robert 40-41). While emphasizing his slogan of making America strong again, Trump promised to bring back jobs that had been outsourced to foreign countries, whereas the Democratic government remained silent on this matter.
The first presidential debate centered on the American economy, as candidates discussed strategies for its recovery. It became clear that the previous administration's choice to open up trade and the economy had resulted in substantial harm and loss of resources. On October 19th, 2016, the third debate occurred in Las Vegas, addressing a broader array of topics. While job creation was highlighted in the initial debate to tackle income inequality, immigration policies received th
most attention from viewers and listeners (Robert 43).
Trump promised to tackle the security and economic dangers caused by unnecessary immigration, suggesting the construction of a wall along the Mexican border. He proposed that Mexico should fund this wall to prevent unauthorized entry from their country. On the other hand, the Democratic candidate favored the 2013 immigration bill, which provided a path to citizenship with minimal documentation requirements. This highlights their contrasting perspectives on the immigration bill. Furthermore, there was also a brief mention of its economic implications regarding tax regulations.
Both candidates have different views on tax code reform. Trump pledges to lower taxes and stimulate wealth creation, while his opponent promises to increase taxes for wealthy individuals and corporations. They both recognize problems with the current Supreme Court justice system, citing an increase in violations of due process and inadequate governance. However, they fail to adequately address contentious issues such as abortions and same-sex marriage.
In summary, the first and third presidential debates were the arenas where many of the controversial issues facing the United States were discussed.
