a) Lewis’s experience with Dickinson’s poetry contributes an enormous amount of information and insight to the broadcast and helps to establish a good amount of ethos for the broadcast.
b) Lewis’s contribution to the broadcast definitely changes my perception of Dickinson mainly because of how passionate Lewis sounds. Her passion makes me want to read Dickinson with a closer, more discerning eye so that I can see and appreciate what Lewis sees and appreciates so much.

I think American life in the nineteenth century enables her to live an undistracted life because there weren’t many things to distract someone at the time. She was well-off financially too so that definitely helped relieve some day to day distractions or necessary time-intensive chore work that left her with more time in the day to write. She was also a recluse so musical shows wouldn’t distract her either.
