Personal statement
I have excelled in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology because I understand their importance in tackling human problems, especially related to illness.
I believe that my passion for helping others and studying a science course will enhance my usefulness in providing primary care. Specifically, I have a desire to study optometry at one of the renowned universities in the UK. This is because these institutions have reputable and professional trainers, as well as cutting-edge facilities that are necessary for my chosen course of optometry. It is crucial for me to study in such an enabling environment in order to become a qualified practitioner. Optometry, as a science, has made significant advancements in recent years. Previously untreatable eye conditions can now be detected and treated thanks to the availability of new diagnostic tools.
Optos retina scanning removes
...the need for irritating eye drops, allowing optometrists to scan a patient's eyes. Moreover, optical coherence tomography is a valuable tool that enables pre-cataract assessments in glaucoma patients. A captivating area of research focuses on stem cell therapy for eye conditions, which has the capacity to promote the regeneration of damaged retinal and optic nerve tissue.
Optometry is not only a subject that interests me, but it is also a passion-driven journey into the constantly evolving and technologically advancing field of Optometry. By pursuing this degree, I will acquire the skills to analyze, identify, and treat eye disorders. My ultimate goal in life is to assist individuals in correcting and surpassing their eye ailments. According to the World Health Organization, about 43% of the world population suffers from visual impairment due to uncorrected refractive errors, with developing nations bein
most affected.
I am eager to volunteer abroad once I complete my education, aiming to improve the lives of underprivileged communities and change perceptions about optometry in developing nations. Optometry plays a vital role in primary healthcare. It is worth mentioning that I have been dedicated to caring for my father since he became paralyzed due to a spinal injury. This firsthand experience has instilled in me the optimistic mindset required for this field and has further ignited my passion for assisting others.
Throughout my journey to become a licensed optometrist, having a sharp focus on detail and accuracy has played a crucial role. Furthermore, both my academic and extracurricular experiences highlight my diligent nature and appreciation for thoroughness in various areas of study. In addition, caring for my father has allowed me to cultivate exceptional time management skills, showcasing my commitment to hard work.
I believe that this will be useful for balancing my studies, practicals, and extracurricular activities. It will also help me attend to my patients punctually when I graduate. Working in the care system has exposed me to administrative responsibilities, such as interviewing and recruiting caregivers, creating schedules for caregivers' working hours and days worked, and managing national insurance contributions.
Aside from prioritizing academics, I also make sure to dedicate time to my hobbies. Racquet sports are a particular passion of mine because they offer intense competition, engagement, and require strong teamwork. Engaging in these activities helps me enhance my concentration and interpretation skills.
Recently, I took part in a charity cycling event in the UK that aimed to support homeless individuals. This experience not only provided a great sense of accomplishment but also fostered empathy
towards those facing challenging circumstances.
In addition to my personal interests, I have aspirations in the field of optometry. My goal is to become an advocate for optometry and serve as a mentor for high school students. Through this role, I can contribute positively to society and give back to the community.
With a strong sense of readiness and confidence in my level of preparation, I am determined to embark on a career path in optometry.
