Due to the advancements of modern science it is very hard to be a disciple in the modern world.
With abortions becoming more readily available, many women are choosing an abortion rather than give up a promising career. This means disobeying our moral ideals and our faith. Also it is impossible to prove the existence of god, this means any cynical people are unlikely to believe in him. With the finding of fossilsthat are millions of years old and scientists determining how old our planet really is, there are anomalies being found in the bible.
Also with the discovery of sexually transmitted diseases, condoms are a necessity, however the church preaches that contraception is wrong, this causes people to ignore the church and act on their own.The first Christians had Jesus to follow, we as mo
...dern Christians have no one, and this causes people to lose faith.In the world we live in, material possessions mean too much to people, so computer games, clothes and money control peoples actions rather than our love of god. People will even watch television instead of saying their prayers.Going to church every Sunday and saying our prayers are no longer considered cool things to do, so with today's youth trying to impress their friends, they will put popularity in front of their holy obligation to god, which they agreed to when they made their first holy communion. If children admit to going to mass they risk being bullied by their peer's.
Today people are to lazy, they can't be bothered to go to mass and with Sunday trading taking place, people can do the shopping instead of going too mass.Howeve
people do not have to go to mass to be good disciples, they can demonstrate their faith by giving to charities, staying strong to their beliefs and not being pressured by others. We can also give up our lives to god and join the priesthood; this is not as extreme as the sacrifice made by the first disciples, but it means we are doing our bit to carry on the religion. If we speak out against injustice we are carrying on God's plans for us.In conclusion I think it is impossible to be a modern world disciple because the church have made rules that are too difficult to live by today.
