Curriculum can be defined as the means and materials with which students will interact for the purpose of achieving identified educational outcomes (Bert, 2013). An effective curriculum must provide teachers, students, administrators and parents with a measurable plan and structure for delivering a quality education.

The curriculum should also recognize the learning outcomes, standards and core competencies that students must demonstrate before advancing to the next level (Glen 2014).

Berwick (1990) noted that a school may use curriculum evaluation to appraise the quality of the teaching staff, and principals may use the curriculum evaluation to provide information to help them make decisions. In edition to the above, a curriculum evaluation is needed to see if the objectives are met. The Principles of Business curriculum was first published in 1 978 and revised in 1990, 1998, 2006 and 201 3, w

ith amendments made in 2009 (Principles of Business Syllabus, 2013). The introduction of the curriculum has been a significant development in high school education as more students are entering the field of business.

The Principles of Business curriculum is a two year programmer that provides a framework to assist in more informed decision-making by individuals in their role as producers or consumers and provides opportunity or students to develop entrepreneurial and managerial skills necessary to survive and prosper in a local, regional and global dynamic business. The curriculum also engages students in conducting research which helps to improve their communication and critical thinking skills and creates an awareness of business ethics and social and economical responsibilities (SEC Principles of Business Syllabus, 2013, page 1).

as some problems have been found with it. Some topics in the curriculum overlap others, while others are too wide and need to be narrowed.

It is also noted that the curriculum is too long, causing teachers not to finish the syllabus which caused some students not to be well prepared for the SEC Principles of Business examination. SEC Principles of Business Syllabus (2013) noted that the curriculum is arranged into 10 sections.

Profile Dimension 1 - Organizational Principles Section 1 The Nature of Business Section 2 Internal Organizational Environment Section 3 Establishing a Business Section 4 Legal Aspects Of Business profile Dimension 2 Production, Marketing and Finance Section 5 Section 6 Section 7 Environment Section 8 Production Marketing Business Finance Profile Dimension 3 - The Business Role of Government in an Economy Section 9 Social Accounting and Global Trade Section 10 Regional and Global Business Environment A model to apply to the evaluation of the Principles of Business curriculum is Daniel Stuffiness's (1989) CHIP Evaluation Model.

The CHIP Model is a comprehensive framework for guiding formative and assumptive evaluations of projects, programs, personnel, products, institutions, and systems.

The model is configured for use in internal evaluations conducted by an organization's evaluators, self evaluations inducted by project teams or individual service providers, and contracted or mandated external evaluations (Stumbled, 2000).

Using the model of Stumbled, the evaluator will look at how the Principles of Business curriculum can be modified so as to address the needs of the students, the type of resources that would be needed, the procedure to carry out and what the outcome would be. The project director would be Natalie Paisley-Kerr and

the evaluation task force would be the Head and teachers of the Business Department and the business students who are doing Principles of Business.

Purpose of the Evaluation The purpose of this evaluation is to examine the SEC Principles of Business Curriculum to determine how some topics could be integrated.

The evaluator will also assess the relevance of the contents to see if they meet the need of students and how can schools get a more positive results from students. Objectives The following are objectives of the evaluation of the Caribbean Secondary Examination (SEC) Principles of Business curriculum: (a) Does the Principles of Business curriculum give students the practical knowledge about the topic being taught? ) How do students use the Principles of Business curriculum to encourage their own reasoning and thinking to understand a concept? (c) What are the challenges teachers find with the Principles of Business curriculum? Chapter 2 Evaluation Module An effective curriculum must identify the learning outcomes, standards and core competencies that students must demonstrate before advancing to the next level (Glenn 2014).

In light of the above, I the evaluator will use the CHIP model to evaluate the Principles of Business curriculum. The acronym CHIP stands for context, input, process and product.

This model examines how the components can help in the implementation and outcomes of the curriculum, and is designed to provide comprehensive information that can guide operations and identify areas of improvement. Using the CHIP model in the evaluation requires a step-by-step approach that encompasses the four components (Hall 2014).

The context of the CHIP evaluation model help in decision-making associated with development and planning, and enables the

evaluator to identify the needs and resources of a community in order to provide programming that will be beneficial (Martens & Wilson 2012). At the input stage, the resources that are available are looked at.

It also seek the strategies that should be considered for the programmer and what plan have the best potential for meeting needs to facilitates the design of the programmer procedures (Stumbled 2002).

Process evaluation evaluate the implementation of plans to help staff carry out activities and later help the broad group of users judge programmer performance and interpret outcomes. The Product evaluations identify and assess outcomes, short term and long term to help staff keep an enterprise focused on achieving important outcomes and ultimately to help the broader group of users gauge the effort' s success in meeting target needs (Stumbled 2002).

The CHIP model is appropriate for the evaluation of the Principles of Business curriculum since there is need for identifying deficiencies in the implementation of the curriculum and the model is receptive to feedback. Methodologies The sampling method that will be used in this evaluation is convenience sampling as it allow for the evaluator gather data even when facing difficulties.

By analyzing the data, the evaluator can estimate developments and compensate for some of the lack in their data. This method will be used because it is extremely fast, easy, readily available, and cost effective.

The population of interest for the evaluation is one hundred and twenty (120) persons which consist of the Head of the Business Department, four (4) business teachers and One Hundred and Fifteen (115) business students in grades 10 and 11 at Holy Childhood

High School who are preparing for the SEC Principles of Business examinations in 2014/2015 respectively. According to Leeds, (2001 a sample is a subset of a population. He also suggested that for a population number greater than one hundred, sampling s required. Therefore, survey will be conducted on a sample of the entire population.

An equal number Of five business students will be chosen from eight classes, along With the head of the business department and the four business teachers. As such, the sample size selected for this research represents 38% of the population, which is identified to be a total of 45 persons from Holy Childhood High School. The instrument that the evaluator plans to use to carry out the evaluation is questionnaire using a 4 point liker scale and observation checklist to gather data from teachers and students. The evaluator will ensure that reliability and validity are obtained from the measurements.

Validity in the sense that the questionnaire would assess what it is intended to measure, and reliability in the sense that similar results would be obtained if given at another time. Data Collection Procedure In evaluating the Principles of Business curriculum, the evaluator will use mixed method approaches, a combination of the qualitative and quantitative methods.

Crewel, J. W. And Plano Clark, V. L. (2011) stated that the mixed methodologies allow researchers to be able to collect the two types of data multitudinously, during a single data collection phase.

Using the qualitative method, I the evaluator will examine the phenomenon through the use of focus group, which often bring out users' spontaneous reactions and ideas and let you observe some group dynamics

and organizational issues (Nielsen 1997).

The quantitative method that will be used in the evaluation is questionnaire, which is a means of bringing out the feelings, experiences or attitude of some sample of individuals (Key 1997). The procedure for collecting the data is by issuing the questionnaires to the sample (45 persons) over a one week period.

The data collected will provide information regarding respondents, age, education, gender, rank and position. The data will be analyzed with bar graphs and tables generated from Microsoft Excel so as to arrive at logical and meaningful solutions.

The evaluator will seek permission from both the principal and the head of the business department of Holy Childhood High School to conduct the focus group discussion and administering the questionnaires to students. A letter Of consent will also be sent to parents along with a sample copy Of the questionnaire that will be used.
