When would be the right time to advertise condoms and better yet, what channels do these advertisements need to be on? Have you ever been sitting down with your family, including your kids watching a movie on television, while eating dinner and a commercial for condoms comes on, and you end up having to turn the channel to distract the kids? Pleasure seems to override safety which can be misleading. Condom advertisements are becoming very prominent on television, in magazines, and even on the radio. How does it make you feel when you see a condom advertisement on a children’s television channel?

Not all families have the same morals when it comes to sex education, sexual innuendos and marketing. There are families in today’s society that would prefer their children not to see and learn about sex education while eating a bowl of Cheerios and watching their morning cartoons.

There are families out there though that would much rather their children to be safe and use protection; but at the same time they want it to be at a more appropriate time, and age. No not everyone is going to approve of everyone else’s choices when it comes to educating their kids about sex; but at the same time parents have to think about the choices they mad

as kids, and if they want their kids to turn out like them or if they want better for their kids. Parents now days would rather have the “sex talk” with their kids when they feel that it is the appropriate time.

They do not feel that the school should teach their kids about sex because the school goes into more details which are not approached in the correct manner. There are even school nurses that will hand out condoms if a student goes and asks for them. Which some parents would not agree with because they would rather their child come to them, and asks for a condom so that way the parent knows that their child is practicing safe sex. Also because then they would know that they have a trust bond with their child, and they feel more comfortable knowing that their child can come to them for anything no matter what the situation is.

There are some advertisements that show teenagers in them, which is a double standard because it is showing that they are practicing safe sex, but it is also showing that it is okay to have sex at a young age. Do you honestly think that pleasure is more important than safety? Advertising seems to focus more on the marketing of the product rather than the important facts of safety. While sex is something that should be enjoyed, the messages these commercials send out are not only seen by adults and teenagers but also younger children.

These messages can encourage young people to want to have sex simply by how they choose to market the products. The way condoms are marketed

can simply mislead kids these days. Advertisements for condoms can lead kids that are at a young age to believe that it is okay to have sex as long as they are using protection. The one thing that the marketers do not think about though is that the more varieties of condoms that they come out with are only making condoms more appealing to the younger population.

Marketers use these different varieties of condoms such as: glow in the dark, sizes, flavored, colored, warming and cooling, and even different textures to make sex more pleasurable. At the same time they are taking away from the true meaning of being responsible and practicing safe sex to practice safe sex not because it looks fun. Is it even necessary for some stores to keep condoms locked up due to the fact that people are stealing them? If someone wants condoms then they will find a way to get condoms no matter what the extent is that they have to go to get condoms.

Has anyone thought of the fact that people are possibly stealing condoms because the prices for condoms are completely outrageous? At Wal*Mart for thirty-six condoms in a Trojan Pleasure pack it costs $18. 47, Trojan Pleasure pack that has twelve in it is $7. 47, Trojan Sensitivity Pack that has ten condoms costs $7. 47, and Trojan-Enz pack of three costs $1. 95. So if people actually think about the prices that they would pay to protect themselves in the end it could be worth it but not for young children and teenagers. Condoms are for ADULTS not KIDS.

Most of the time people steal condoms for

the fact that they are embarrassed of what people will say or think when they go check out with a box of condoms. So to save them the embarrassment they think that it is okay to just steal them, but if they were to get caught it would cost them a whole lot more than just dealing with the allegations that people will make when they are paying for them. Condoms are not made for fun they are made to protect you. In my opinion I feel as if the advertisements for condoms are very double standard.

They want you to practice safe sex but at the same time they try and catch the attention of the younger, immature age group. I am a mother and I do not think that the marketing company is right by showing condom commercials on Cartoon Network, and Nick at Nite. I mean yeah they show them after 10:00 PM and all but still really is that the place for condom commercials? How would you feel if your child woke up at that time of night and you were trying to find something for them to watch so that they could fall back asleep and they see a condom commercial and then ask “Mommy what is a condom? That is not something that needs to be explained to a child at a young age. There are good intentions just not approached in the correct manner. In conclusion, condom ads are very deceiving in the fact that they are double standard. They have good intentions but the marketing over rules the main point of condoms. Condoms are not used just for

fun they are used to protect men and women from getting diseases, and having babies. The advertisements for condoms have attracted the wrong group of people.

They are supposed to attract the age group of 21 and older, but with the way that condoms are advertised they have attracted teenagers that are too young to be worrying about having sex. School nurses should not be handing condoms out to kids because they are not their parents and it is encouraging safe sex but at then again it is promoting sex at a young age. If companies would lower the prices then people would not have to steal them, and possibly feel embarrassed to buy them. I would have to disagree with the messages that condom advertisements put out for the simple fact that 99. 99% of them are very misleading and double standard.
