I sat inhaling and exhaling the sweet sent of this unfamiliar room Essay Example
As I sat on the solid cherry parquet floor, my back pressed against the dusty pink wall, an overwhelming sense of sorrow washed over me. Tears streamed down my pallid cheeks as I tried to steady myself with a deep breath. In under a minute, the rush of adrenaline propelled me up the extensive spiral staircase until I discovered a sanctuary amidst the chaos. My parents' incessant fighting had grown intolerable and my initial attempt at seeking refuge by striking the wall resulted in agony and difficulty standing.
Although confronted with a massive oak door, I could still hear my parents' loud arguments which were becoming tiresome considering our recent arrival at the new home. Despite their quarreling, I wiped away my tears and took a moment to examine the room where I sought solace.
...
The stunning beauty of my surroundings left me in awe. The room's charm and comfort were amazing yet it also had a sense of loneliness. It was a spacious, feminine room with a sweet musky floral fragrance emanating from a garland of red and black roses intertwined like a grapevine. The overall effect was a strangely warm feeling.
The opaque glass brick window was small but provided a decent amount of light. However, light was not a concern in the room since a fierce red fire burned in a massive fireplace directly in front of me. The dangerous flames filled the space with a comforting warmth, embracing me like the arms of a friend. Nonetheless, I started to have reservations as I recognized that nobody had occupied this house for over eight months.
Asking why the fire was on, I looked a
the fragrant flowers and noticed they were also fresh. I remembered seeing them before and thought my parents may have arranged them earlier to make the room more welcoming. Returning my focus to the captivating space, I saw a dark, hefty table on the left side of the room. The unique design etched into the rich mahogany resembled climbing ivy.
Examining every corner, I observed only a solitary footstool: a lavish, ruby red piece that resembled blood. The room's sole stunning piece of furniture was the magnificent piano, which rested on four stately, ebony legs. One of the legs featured a coiled serpent, which added an antique touch. As I approached the piano, three radiant beams of light suddenly shone onto the floor from behind me. I swiftly pivoted to investigate.
As I gazed in astonishment, my eyes were fixated on an unusual sight. The carmine wood wall was intricately carved, allowing light to filter through like a wooden screen. Its solid texture only added to my fascination, and I couldn't help but feel enchanted by its charm.
While approaching the object to examine it more closely, a chilly gust of wind blew by, causing a shivery sensation on my skin. I brushed my arm and felt the roughness of goosebumps. "There's something hidden there!" I cried out, my voice reverberating against the vacant walls. Running my fingers over the intricately etched surface, I trembled as the wall had a scaly texture akin to that of a snake's skin.
As I approached the end, I noticed there were actually hinges in the wall art. My hand, now numb and covered in dirt and dust, looked gray. After dusting it
off, I contemplated my next move. The chill emanating from the screen was more dominant than any warm feeling.
Despite feeling like an outsider and being afraid, I had a desire to open the screen. However, I reminded myself that this is my house and I have the right to do as I please. My goal was to overcome my fear and assert my ownership.
My breath quickened and my mouth went dry as I pushed open the creaky and rusty wooden screen with all my might. Despite trembling and having my heart thudding in my ears, I created just enough room to fit through the slightly ajar screen. Although unsure why I was so nervous, the current room felt comforting and warm.
Although there was no direct sign of discomfort, my instincts sensed an eerie atmosphere in the second room. To ready myself for entry, I shut my eyes and took a deep breath while bracing against the cold wooden structure. As I pressed against the screen, a frigid gust confirmed that I had entered another area and caused me to lose balance.
Upon awakening, I took a sudden deep breath and opened my eyes. At first, the sensation felt like a blow to the stomach but then I realized that the screen had closed. This brought a feeling of great relief and I quickly tried to push it open.
As I gazed upon the unobstructed screen, a sense of safety enveloped me. But when I exerted an equal amount of strength to push open the door as before, my muscles tensed with effort. Despite this, the door remained immobile, not even budging slightly. This instilled a growing
sense of fear in my throat.
With my voice and scream trapped inside of me, I used only my bare hands to push against the door in an attempt to break free. Despite feeling unsure and crying, I eventually turned around slowly, bracing myself for whatever unknown entity lurked in the cold room.
The sight that greeted me was alarming - walls coated in white paint and adorned with grandiose medieval tapestries. A sense of fear engulfed me, as the absolute quiet of a cathedral, along with the snowy white atmosphere and musty odor, permeated the room.
Observing the vastness of the ceiling, I realized that a giant portrait had been painted upon it. The acrid taste of my tears made me nauseous, as if I was trapped here for some wrong deed committed. I fervently hoped that my parents would soon arrive to save me, while scrutinizing the unfriendly portraits of people adorning the walls.
Among the participants, there were individuals from diverse backgrounds in terms of age and race, yet mostly women. Adorned with extravagant gowns adorned with sparkling stones, their faces exuded sternness, resembling stone. While scanning the environment, the absence of friendly smiles was striking, instead replaced by malicious and mischievous expressions. In an attempt to alleviate my discomfort, I wiped off the stale sweat from my forehead and pressed my back tightly against the screen. My hope lingered for the screen to open and liberate me from this captivity.
Although I knew the situation was hopeless, the coldness in the air made it clear that a supernatural being was present. This caused my nervousness and fear to increase even more.
Feeling a mixture of emotions, I
thought I was hallucinating and found it difficult to handle the eerie silence. In an effort to find someone who could hear me, I tried shouting and eventually screamed after taking a deep breath.
As I heard my own voice reverberating throughout the room, sounding like a feline in distress, I was startled. My attention was drawn to the old tapestries and anxiety overwhelmed me once more. Moving towards the far end of the room slowly, I sensed that many sets of invisible eyes were watching me, despite there being only tapestries in the empty space.
Amidst the watchful gaze of numerous individuals, I glanced upwards to verify if the malevolent female figure above was observing me. My apprehension was validated, prompting me to rapidly redirect my attention forward. The unfamiliar countenances instilled a sense of unease and fragility within me, as though I had been laid bare and rendered powerless. A cold gust of wind swept past, disheveling my hair as I remained motionless against the wall, overcome with nausea.
With the setting of the sun, the room grew dimmer and the original rays of light disappeared, causing the faces surrounding me to seemingly encroach and gradually break out in laughter as they ridiculed my mental state.
As the walls closed in on me, I felt my face go pale and my breathing become labored. The tight space made me feel like a trapped animal, with darkness enveloping the room and bloodthirsty faces appearing. The suffocating feeling of being confined was overwhelming.
A set of bloodshot eyes met my gaze and caused me to collapse. As I went limp, I saw the same vengeful eyes hovering menacingly above me,
while the ceiling also seemed to close in. It became evident that I was lying inside a box that could easily double as a coffin. Sensing the woman's cold and acidic breath above me was unnerving.
As my body remained motionless and devoid of hope, I shut my heavy eyelids as darkness and numbness engulfed me. Uncertainty loomed over the possibility of ever opening them again.
